How to Stop Stuttering Therapy

There has been a lot of talk in the media in recent weeks about the merits, or not, of certain stuttering therapies. It is estimated that as many as one percent of the population of the UK is affected by this most frustrating form of speech impediment and therefore any form of scam product will soon become highlighted.

The news during the last three weeks has centred on the so called nine minute stuttering cure. Now I sure that the majority of the public are fully aware that it is absolutely impossible to overcome such a complex impediment as stuttering in just nine minutes however it seems as if some people have actually believed the claims. These same people then complain when after ten minutes they are still stuttering!

The unfortunate thing with this whole debacle is the fact that it brings down the whole market of stuttering therapy and its associated speech therapy courses and self-help products. Steve Hill who runs the renowned and much respected “The How to Stop Stuttering Centre” commented:

“I guess all of the press regarding this “so called miracle cure” has had a negative effect overall as people then tend to start accepting the fact that they have a stutter; rather than fighting to eradicate it. This was very much like what was happening in the 1990’s therefore this has probably put us back ten years or so.”

This of course is very much a shame and just compounds people’s frustrations. At the end of the day I guess you have quality as well as rubbish within every industry and the cream will normally end up at the top in the same way that Steve Hill and The How to Stop Stuttering Centre have.
